Background

The Outreach Commission exists to serve those in need through the work of committees of Parish volunteers who provide pastoral care, work for social justice, and serve people in need throughout the larger community.

Activities

Food Programs include:

Helps adult members of the Sacred Heart family in the USC province to reflect together on the sacred value of Earth and our responsibility to protect it.

The Sheridan Rd schools employs residents from Misericordia Heart of Mercy Home, which is home for individuals with developmental disabilities. The whole school community  benefits from this relationship.

6-week summer residential internship experience for college students interested in social justice and social change. Participants work full-time with a justice-based organisation and particpates in educational and reflection sessions.

Influence policy decisions affecting the citizens and ecosystem of the Portland area. 

Action oriented training through popular education methodology with a focus on migrant populations.

Plan activities and information sessions for religious and associates in the St Louis area

Provides retreats and spiritual direction for homeless men and women

The ISP programs foster:

• Reflection – finding my story as a place of God’s grace
• Reconciliation – healing of past wounds and connection to community
• Transformation – moving from self hate to love; isolation to engagement

Our programs provide hope, encourage the spiritual life, and thereby ultimately end the injustice of homelessness.

Description of Our Programs:

Advocacy and education around issues involving water.

To support schools in Uganda-Kenya by raising funds for building needs and equipment, sponsoring student education, responding to various needs dictated by current events and other fund raising items to support justice and peace.
