Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
Amid the global pandemic and climate emergency, global peacebuilders call on governments to invest in peace.
Based on the fundamental dignity of every person, the General Assembly unanimously adopted the goals and targets and a timeline for all nations and peoples and all segments of society to accomplish sustainable development by 2030.
The global crisis caused by COVID-19 poses a significant threat to accomplishing the overarching goal of the SDGs to "leave no one behind.” The disproportionate impact of the pandemic on poor populations living in Low and Middle-Income countries highlights the interdependencies between the SDGs and the need to focus on the whole development spectrum.
The 65th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) was held on March 15-26, 2021. The priority theme was
“Women's full and effective participation and decision-making in public life,
as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality
and the empowerment of all women and girls.”
On 18th December 2020, International Migrants Day, the Transformative Community of Practice (TCoP) of the European and African regions of the Society of the Sacred Heart, organized an online conference in collaboration with Justice Coalition of Religious (JCoR), Mercy International Association, and the NGO Committee on Migration.
Pope Francis addressed world leaders on September 25, 2020 at the virtual 75th General Assembly of the United Nations. Among other calls, he urged world leaders to rethink the future of our Common Home.
