Bandung flood relief

Background

In December 2014, the Citarum river overran its banks following heavy rain, flooding the Bandung regency and a number of its districts, in particular Dayerukolot

Objective

  • To provide some practical relief to flood victims of the Bandung regency.

Activities

  • food and clothes taken by rubber boat to victims' houses.

Nur Abadi Teachers support and professional development

Background

Nur Abadi is a private school that provides education for children who have developmental challenges. This is the only educational programme available for poor families with handicapped children. Some of the teachers at Nur Abadi are subsidised by the government and the other teachers are paid directly by the school. Because the school lacks sufficient funds, the teachers that are paid directly by the school receive a significantly lower salary.

Arumba Music Project at Nur Abadi

Background

Nur Abadi is a school for children with disabilities and special needs. The school has never been able to provide a music program, even though the value of music for special needs children is well-established.

Objective

To foster the value of traditional music as therapy for special needs children.

The Spirit Building Project

Background

SMK Saint Joseph is a three-year technical secondary school located in a low-income neighbourhood of Jakarta preparing students to either follow a technical career or continue on to university. Its students come from the near-by neighbourhood or from the Vincentus Foundation orphanage. 

In 2014, RSCJs in Indonesia became part of SMK St. Joseph with one person in a leadership position and another RSCJ as an assistant.
