The 2025 United Nations General Assembly marked a historic milestone, celebrating 80 years of dedicated service to humanity. Held in New York from September 22 to 29 under the unifying theme "Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights," this landmark gathering united hundreds of world leaders, diplomats, civil society representatives, and youth advocates.

The Assembly reflected on eight decades of global cooperation and transformation, emphasizing the UN's enduring mission to foster peace, justice, and sustainable development in a complex and evolving world. Throughout the week, diverse voices came together to honor the UN’s legacy while advancing urgent global priorities—from climate action and conflict resolution to the promotion of human rights and inclusive multilateralism.

This newsletter, written by Margaret Mwarili RSCJ, highlights key moments, discussions, and achievements that underscore the continued relevance and promise of the United Nations as we move into its ninth decade.
