Thensted Center, Grand Coteau LA

Grand Coteau is a poor rural setting in Louisiana (a community with a 29.4% poverty rate; over 7% greater than Louisiana's poverty rate) where quality, holistic education is not accessible for everyone. Thensted Center is a service agency founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart to provide services to youth, elderly, those in need of health care, clothing and emergency food services.  It also provides a gathering place and help with finances.  The summer program allows parents to have a safe place for their children so that they can work.

Summit Leadership Academy for Youth

Sponsored by Stuart Centre's Office of Educational Initiatives and Leadership, the Summit Leadership Academy for Youth offers a leadership training program to young people from resource restricted environments using popular education methodology with the aim of developing youth-led social justice projects in their communities.
