SAMPAGUITA, the Women's Income Generating Program
of the St. Madeleine Sophie Foundation (SMSF)
in Montalban, Philippines,
celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The JPIC section of 2008 Chapter was the impetus for this effort.
Northern Samar is the seventh poorest province in the Philippines. RSCJ have maintained a training centre here since 2009 where live-in formation sessions are held.
In 2012, 1650 attended various programmes at the Sacred Heart Institute for Transformative Education. Many of those who take part are students at the University of Eastern Philippines.
This project will subsidise the faith based and transformative leadership programmes at the centre for students, staff and women from rural communities.

Background
The project is located in a barangay about 5 kilometers from the city. This is a resettlement project established
by the Philippine District for the victims of the flashflood in Ormoc in 1991. This area is inhabited by 35
families and in 2012 the local government has declared the resettlement as a Purok which is a
smallest unit of government in this locality.
