One of the very important Sacred Heart Goals is "Social Awareness that Impels to Action". All of the students are encouraged to develop their awareness of social justice issues that affect the local, national and global communities. It is hoped that with a developed sense of awareness students are impelled to act, and get involved in a variety of fundraising and community service projects throughout the school year.

Since 1956, Granja Hogar focuses on children and young people of Chihuahua living in conditions of extreme poverty, being at risk of social marginalisation, living in disintegrated families, victims of violence and abandonment. Most of them are of Rarámuri origine.

To foster a community of practice that promotes participation, the development of citizenship skills and the strengthening of collaboration between the different members of the Province's educational communities.

Activity

During period of COP 21 (Dec 2015) an upper junior class had lessons on the effect on the environment of carbon dioxide - lessons which also included information about the causes and effects of acid rain and global warming.

Background

The Popular Education is a learning concept that focuses mainly on marginalised people (unemployed, indigenous, peasants, etc.) and their learning process. It enhances their learning through experiences, practices and reasoning in/on their local environment. Popular Education has had a long tradition in Latin America since the end of XX and one of its founder is Paolo Freir.
