
Background
SPJ Sadhana School believes that people who are mentally disabled can do wonders if their mind is trained in the right direction. SPJ Sadhana School students are always made to realise that they are special not because of their mental disabilities, but, in spite of it they can do wonders and achieve the goal their minds have set. The school believes in making them independent and self sufficient people who can contribute to the society.
Objective
To educate and train multiply handicapped and mentally challenged children to become productive members of society.
Activities
The school runs three levels of courses:
- Formative years
- Intermediate level
- Polytechnic courses
Courses are set around the following therapies:
- Math program
- Auditory system
- Holistic department
- Snoezelen
- Art therapy
- The speech therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Music therapy
- The sports program
- Creating connections
Results/Success stories
The youth show social abilities to regulate their anger and anxiety, display flexibility in their attitudes and enthusiasm in their doings, and can follow routines without individual instructions. In addition, parents express trust and cooperation with the school staff; they show interest in their children development. Fun prevails in the school, fun in learning and fun in teaching.
A youngster with ASD spectrum with multiple disabilities enrolled in the Office Procedures Class. He is now employed in the corporate company Deloitte.
A boy coming from Nairobi (Kenya), who had suffered from Rasmussens Encephalitis and was severely epileptic, following a three year training (including an internship at Signet Pharma), is now the Senior Administrator Executive of his family business.
