Background

The Training Development Scholarship Society (TDSS), an NGO which conducts development projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra, is committed to restoring dignity to human beings deprived of their rights due to prevalent unjust socioeconomic structures in the rural areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka to combat poverty and exploitation. TDSS aims to make both the people and groups effective and self reliant by generating forces within the society for sustaining these initiatives.

TDSS supports local organisations, individuals and social entrepreneurs with financial assistance, networking and professional logistical support in helping them achieve their goals of sustainable human development and well-being in their communities.

Objective

To empower rural communities in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Activities 

  • Women's empowerment through self-help groups, skills training, and training in local-self-government                       
  • Education of village children (mainly dalit and tribals) through support classes and balwadis (nursery for low-income families)
  • Education of Kishoris (young woment 15-21 years) through skills training .   
  • Training in organic farming and water harvesting.  
  • Training of rural women and men in human rights especially the right to education and the right to work.

Issues treated with adults: educational development, social development (Mahila Mandals, movement against alcoholism), environmental conservation, economic development.
