On 1 September 2026, the Catholic Church celebrates the 11th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, with the theme “They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks” (Isaiah 2:4). In his message, the Holy Father invites believers to contemplate the gift of life and to cherish the earth that sustains it as an act of praise to the Creator.
The Pope links the ecological crisis with the scourge of war, showing how violence and environmental destruction feed one another in a vicious cycle that wounds both people and the planet. He calls for an “ecological conversion” that begins in the human heart—transforming inner discord, selfishness, and the desire for domination into love, justice, and care for creation.
This day of prayer therefore becomes not only an occasion to ask God’s mercy for our sins against the earth, but also a commitment to turn the instruments of death into tools of life: from weapons to works of development, from division to dialogue, and from exploitation to stewardship.
