Overview

Background

The mission of the Stuart Center is ¨to work for social justice through education, empowerment and partnership with others at the national and international level". The Stuart Center International Volunteer program has three pillars: service, community and reflection. The volunteers work in the JPIC areas represents a high priority for the USC Province.

Activities

Volunteers are directed to projects that focus on either immigration, care of the environmental, peace education and/or conflict resolution. They are expected to work full-time (Monday-Friday with a 7-8 hour day) with non-profit partner organizations that share the Stuart Centre's commitment to JPIC and whose mission is aligned with that of the Society of the Sacred Heart. The partner organizations are required to provide volunteers with meaningful, direct service experience.

Outcomes

Volunteers will broaden their intellectual understanding of complex issues as well as open their hearts and minds to the situation of people on the move and the earth.

 

El contexto

La misión del Centro Stuart es "trabajar por la justicia social a través de la educación, el empoderamiento y la asociación con otros a nivel nacional e internacional". El programa de Voluntariado Internacional del Centro Stuart tiene tres pilares: servicio, comunidad, y reflexión. El trabajo de los voluntarios en las áreas de JPIC representa una alta prioridad para la Provincia de USC.

Las actividades

Se orienta a los voluntarios y las voluntarias hacia proyectos que se centran en la inmigración, el cuidado del medioambiente, la educación para la paz y/o la resolución de conflictos. Se espera que trabajen a tiempo completo (de lunes a viernes con una jornada de 7-8 horas) con organizaciones asociadas sin ánimo de lucro que compartan el compromiso del Centro Stuart con la JPIC y cuya misión esté alineada con la de la Sociedad del Sagrado Corazón. Las organizaciones asociadas deben proporcionar a los voluntarios y las voluntarias una experiencia de servicio directa y significativa.

Los resultados

Los voluntarios y las voluntarias ampliarán su comprensión intelectual de temas complejos así como abrirán sus corazones y mentes a la situación de las personas en movimiento y de la tierra.

Volunteers, as agents of transformation in people, are the first focus of the programme. Indirectly, the programme centres people as people who are marginalised and of planet according to the organisation activities the volunteers are allocated.
