World Environment Day Celebrations in Malvan

5th of June is celebrated as World Environment Day to highlight the importance of the environment and to urge us to save it. For the first time we the team of “Youth beats for Climate” together with the sisters of the Society of Sacred Heart organized the celebration of World Environment Day in the Ashadeep Nursery.

It was a simple but unique programme - one of listening to each other’s stories and learning from one another ways of saving and protecting Mother Earth. We were happy to have many people among us - those working passionately for the environment like a naturalist, a lawyer, sisters, students and social workers who came together to share and to learn from each other's experiences. After a brief introduction to ourselves, our environmental warriors shared about their own experiences which was inspiring. We felt motivated to commit ourselves to take care of our environment wherever we are. We also spent some time singing awareness songs on the planet earth in English and Marathi.

As a token of our remembrance of this event we distributed to those present - saplings of coconut, jaiphal, aloe vera, jamun, bel - sharing with them the properties and usefulness of each of the saplings. We ended our little gathering with light refreshments. Everyone went away feeling energized and happy to be part of this celebration.
