Grand Coteau is a poor rural setting in Louisiana (a community with a 29.4% poverty rate; over 7% greater than Louisiana's poverty rate) where quality, holistic education is not accessible for everyone. Thensted Center is a service agency founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart to provide services to youth, elderly, those in need of health care, clothing and emergency food services. It also provides a gathering place and help with finances. The summer program allows parents to have a safe place for their children so that they can work. For the children it provides fun, education, skills art, drama, computer, swimming, whatever the talents the counselors bring to the experience. Participants will live at the boarding school facilities at Grand Coteau, prepare their own dinners and join the campers for breakfast and lunch
After school and summer programs for low-income children and educational programs for adults as well as emergency needs.
