
Background
Newly-arrived undocumented women in Barcelona, from non-European countries and/or conflict zones, who have little or no professional training have difficulty to access the labour market. They run the risk of forming part of socially vulnerable groups with serious difficulties in achieving a dignified and autonomous life. In addition, there is an increasing demand of the textile industry in Catalonia.
Objective
To increase the professional skills of migrant women.
Activities
- Dressmaking training
- Theory courses (400 hours) and practices (100 hours)
- Practices in local tailor shops and in the workshop of the Fundaciò Roure
- Cultural and labour orientation
- Labour skills (client relationships, puntuality, communication, etc.)
Results
- Migrant women have increased their professional skills
- The workshop proposes discount prices for vulnerable people for their tailoring by trainees
- Local tailor shops have increase their social responsibility. They accept the project migrants for their stage and promote the project by including in their corporate newsletter articles about it

The project is run by the Foundation Roure, where RSCJ are actively involved (presidency).
