Objective
To change rural Karamojong culture from one of domestic violence to domestic peace.
Activity
Every 3 or 4 months a group consisting of 5 to 7 older men with 3 or more wives each come to Naoi for a 2 day workshop. The man and the first 3 wives are invited. They speak with great honesty and as a result of being listened to respectfully, the man, who is usually the one who solves problems by violence (though often the wife can also beat her children for any small mistake) is ready to listen to his wives and understand what he has never understood before. One old man who had never been inside a church before and was impressed by the life-size crucifix in Naoi, said, I think we need a crucifix in our home. It will help me remember this time and keep me from beating. This project also works in collaboration with an NGO against forced marriages, usually of very young girls to old men who already have many wives.
