Background

The escalating division, violent communication, hostility, fear from the "Others" (e.g. the "migrants", or simply from those, who have a different conviction) is our experience in Hungary. These processes are triggered by a harsh public discourse, which aims to annihilate the other, always looking for a new "enemy". It is impossible to see any chance of dialogue.

Objective

To promote trust, union and sympathy among people by witnessing that there is peace and unity in the depth of our differences.

Activities

Through mail lists we invite  people of different religious convictions and spiritual backgrounds to spend an hour in silence together. We meet at a local parish once a month. Occasionally 5-6 people come together. We start and end the meetings with the prayer of Saint Francis, then each one practices together silent meditation/contemplative prayer in his/her own way. For example a woman who practisese zen meditation comes regularly. The meeting is led by 2 RSCJs.

Outcome

We believe that by creating silence in ourselves awareness and attentiveness grows in and among us. Some who have come to this prayer meeting said, that he/she is now more aware of solidarity with those who have different values-based convictions.
