Background

Nur Abadi is a private school that provides education for children who have developmental challenges. This is the only educational programme available for poor families with handicapped children. Some of the teachers at Nur Abadi are subsidised by the government and the other teachers are paid directly by the school. Because the school lacks sufficient funds, the teachers that are paid directly by the school receive a significantly lower salary.

Objective

  • To equally balance teacher salaries.
  • To improve teachers' professional skills

Activities

  • to provide financial support to the 12 lower paid teachers (out of a total of 32 teachers). Increase the monthly wage by $8.
  • to provide professional development for all teachers with monthly workshops on child-centred education.
  • to provide improved premises and conditions for teachers' activities

Outcomes

The teachers who have received a better salary and those who have attended the monthly workshops have shown greater commitment and dedication to their work of educating and serving the pupils of Nur Abadi and the results of this have been passed onto the students.
