Objectif

To increase the cultural awareness of students, and to allow students to experience social justice in another culture and country.

Activities

  • Kincoppal Rose Bay (Sydney):  Year 10 and 11 students are given the opportunity to join in an expedition to India once a year. The trip spends a week working at a Buddhist orphanage in the Himalayas (Nepal).

  • Stuartholme School (Brisbane): Tours have taken our students to China, Vietnam, India, Laos and Peru.

  • Sacré-Cœur School Melbourne: a three week expedition to India combining sightseeing, trekking and a social justice community project.  In 2015, three separate Expeditions, including a total of 54 students and nine staff, ventured to the north-west Indian Himalayan region. Each group spent at least one week living in a local village engaging in a service activity funded by the students. The service activities were based around the local school and typically involved renovating the buildings, landscaping surroundings, providing resources…

Outcomes

  • Students have been educated to a critical consciousness that leads them to analyse and reflect on the values of society and to act for justice.

  • Students have received preparation and inspiration to be active, informed and globally responsible citizens.
