Background

The project Manos in Movimiento, implemented in the northern region of San Luis Potosi, targeted 415 children (aged 3-12) and 88 parents across 3 schools, 2 community areas, and an association. The project aimed to address increasing insecurity, violence, and their impacts on children and families.

Activities

The project developed a program of culture of peace supported by weekly extracurricular sessions and intensive summer camps, which incorporated interactive elements like board game tournaments, social gatherings, and workshops focused on emotional expression, parenting skills, and bullying awareness.

Outcomes

Participants demonstrated greater emotional awareness and self-regulation, and comfort in expressing their feelings. Increased displays of affection such as smiling, laughing, hugs and kisses were observed. Family and peer interaction improved with less shouting and more dialogue; a greater collaboration among family members to address common issues was witnessed. Participants reported lower stress levels and an increased proactive behaviour in addressing conflicts and difficulties. The project successfully created a more peaceful and supportive environment for children and families in the area.
