Overall objective

To foster a community of practice that promotes participation, the development of citizenship skills and the strengthening of collaboration between the different members of the Province's educational communities.

Specific objectives:

  • To design projects that benefit communities through democratic processes.
  • To promote the participation of citizens to foster improvements in their communities, with the development of leadership and stakeholder involvement.
  • To highlight the social capital of communities through the initiatives of citizens that strengthen the social fabric.
  • To generate skills and conditions in communities so to have them organise to achieve their development by taking in the common good and fostering a sense of belonging and cooperation.

Activities

  • Citizenship skills are worked on in the sessions with the groups, stressing the ethics of care and the common good through different playful activities.
  • Creation of committees and work teams representing the different groups to which they belong.
  • Training of the members of the Community of Practice in the Methodology of Citizen Participation so that they can deepen their learning and experience on the subject, and provide them with the necessary support.
  • Implementation of learning strategies that develop the autonomy of people, both students and members of the communities, developing their critical and proactive sense for the democratic exercise of their citizenship.
  • Collaboration between the different educational agents (teachers, popular educators, directors) linked to the educational centre or community organisation.

The MEX Province has had 9 of its intitutions taking part: 6 were edutation centres and 3 were popular education organisations. 

Data from the final report of the 2019-2020 cycle indicate that

  • 10 coordinators involved,
  • 27 facilitators involved.

The programme coordination reached 1.600 direct beneficiaries distributed in 25 different projects. In addition, there is an outreach of 4,255 indirect participants.

On a qualitative level, the following can be observed:

  • Children have increased their social interaction skills such as cooperation, participation and critical thinking.
  • Children express their emotions more easily and recognise how to manage some of them. Their personal relationships are one of respect, empathy and solidarity.
  • Adults have learnt to walk as a group in an independent manner. Self-efficacy, leadership and community organisation skills have been strengthened.
  • The willingness of mothers, teachers and directors to facilitate the training of the entire educational community in participation and coexistence to achieve a common good, allowed the project to move forward.
