Background

Throughout the 20th century, Lima grew in population, production, employment, education, and health; these changes also brought cases of marginalisation among populations, in particular among internal migrants.

The project is set in the suburb of Lima in the Cerro (hill) del San Pedro - El Agustino, a slum which counts a high number of internal migrants. This is where the RSCJ community has chosen, in 2008, to implement its Educational Institution "Mater Admirabilis".

Objective

To enroll students in the professional training course on bakery in the Mater Admirabilis CETPRO.

Activities

  • Installation of electric network that supports high production
  • Installation of health equipment
  • Purchase of an industrial oven
  • Purchase of industrial tables for bakery production
  • Purchase of a dough divider machine
  • Bakery training for teachers
  • Bakery courses for students of the school

Results

  • Backed and launched a production of panetoni (cakes)
  • Students acquired a business stance in which ethics, creativity and perseverance were part of their production projects and services.
  • Thanks to the new machines, students acquired quality technical and management skills.
  • They have developed links of cooperation and collectivity during their training, both in the classroom and outside the school premises.
  • Sales of their bakeries provided income for economic sustainability.
  • Students attended lessons with responsibility and enthusiasm.
  • The production developed relationships between teachers, students and families.
