
Background
The schools in Kipako and Mbansa- Mboma are mainly attended by pupils from Kinshasa, whose families have the financial means to pay for school enrolment and boarding. However, the inhabitants of these two localities are dependent on agriculture, which is poorly marketed due to a lack of good roads, and therefore do not have sufficient financial resources to provide their children with regular schooling. What is more, because of the distance they have to travel, these semi-resident pupils tend to arrive late as well as likely to be threatened along the way, so they become discouraged and choose to drop out of school. They focus on unprofitable farming and become mothers at a young age. However, the location of these schools, in disadvantaged areas, is the reason for the RSCJ's existence - these children, who are the future of these regions, they also deserve to receive a regular quality education, the RSCJ education.
The aim of the project is to prevent 60 young girls from families in the villages of Kipako and Mbansa-Mboma from dropping out of school.
Activities
The boards of the Sacré-Cur schools in Kipako and Mbansa-Mboma have set up scholarships for the children of the inhabitants of these villages to cover school fees and boarding. In order to access these scholarships, the families of the beneficiaries must in turn make a contribution in kind (oil and chikwangues - manioc), just as the beneficiaries make their contribution in services to the school (refectory).
Results
The beneficiaries of the scholarship have had a sense of responsibility awaken towards their families and the school and have developed their academic potential. Ten of them have obtained their state diploma and 50 have been promoted to the next class. The results achieved by these pupils have encouraged other girls in these villages to stay in school.
