Background
Primary and secondary education in Cuba was once of high quality. At the moment, due to lack of resources, a significant number of teachers prefer to earn a living in other activities; salaries are derisory, and adolescents, especially those in lower secondary school, are difficult to deal with.
Activities
The Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) in Sancti Spiritus have been using the chapel of their community to offer a service of school tutoring. Over the years, the influx has grown and required a structured service with adequate space. The Space to Teach offers:
- After-school tutoring lessons
- Education in values
Results
- Lower school failure rates
- Family relationships are harmonious
