Plastic bottles for migrants
Italy has been in the spotlight with the Mediterranean migrant crisis for the last two decades. In 2018, the Rifugio Fraternità Massi, a reception center, opened its doors in Oulx (Val di Susa, North-West Italy) to welcome migrants on their way from Italy to northern European countries.
The Rifugio Fraternità Massi provides a main meal, shower facilities, a bed and breakfast. In June 2023, with the increase of migrant numbers and the high temperatures, drinking water was increasingly in demand. The Rifugio called to charities to supply them empty plastic bottle to be filled in with drinking water. The RSCJ Avigliana community responded to the call. The catering that provides them meals includes plastic bottles. RSCJ gather their empty bottles and have them arrive to the Rifugio Fraternità Massi with their prayers.
Migrants on their way to northern European countries can carry drinking water with them.
