The “Los Cortadeños” Work Co-Operative
"Ten years ago, we began to accompany adolescents and young people with family and judicial problems, school dropouts and drug use in the La Cortada neighborhood, Reconquista (Santa Fe). At that time, we would never have dreamed that we would become a work co-operative that supports more than 70 young people.
The journey has been a long one - not without difficulties of all kinds - and today we can look back at three key factors that have driven and sustained the project and the commitment to the social inclusion of these young people stigmatized as “corner boys and girls".
The first priority was BONDING with the young people, caring for them, believing in them, loving them, and supporting them at every stage of their lives. They knew and they still know that they can count on us.
The TEAM, sharing the same outlook, the same commitment, and drawing on the diversity of each person's gifts.
PERMANENCE of time and place. Our doors have always been open to them, week after week and year after year.
Our networking with other organizations, constant reflection about our practice, creativity, hope as a political tool and always aiming for transformation have been changing THE OUTLOOK, both the neighborhood community and the young people themselves."
