SUMMARY:International Day of the Girl Child
DESCRIPTION:The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights. \nAdolescent girls have the right to a safe\, educated\, and healthy life\, not only during these critical formative years\, but also as they mature into women. If effectively supported during the adolescent years\, girls have the potential to change the world – both as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow’s workers\, mothers\, entrepreneurs\, mentors\, household heads\, and political leaders. An investment in realising the power of adolescent girls upholds their rights today and promises a more equitable and prosperous future\, one in which half of humanity is an equal partner in solving the problems of climate change\, political conflict\, economic growth\, disease prevention\, and global sustainability.

SUMMARY:Janet Stuart RSCJ Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Janet Erskine Stuart\, RSCJ (1857–1914)\, born into the Anglican Church in Cottesmore\, England as the youngest of thirteen children\, embarked on a solitary quest for truth in her teens. This led her to convert to Catholicism at 22 and enter the Society of the Sacred Heart three and a half years later—a lifelong journey shaping her service. As a Religious of the Sacred Heart\, she held leadership roles\, including sixth Superior General\, but her writings best reveal her deep spirituality\, intellect\, vision\, and realism. Known as a charismatic leader\, born educator\, and ideal friend\, her works emphasize openness to individual differences\, holistic human development\, and above all\, God’s tender care for each person\, inspiring thousands today.

SUMMARY:Feast of Saint Philippine Duchesne
DESCRIPTION:Rose Philippine Duchesne was born in Grenoble\, France\, in 1769. After preparing for her first communion at the Visitation convent\, she joined the cloistered order despite her missionary calling\, but the French Revolution closed it\, leading her to serve Grenoble’s destitute for a decade. In 1804\, she met Madeleine Sophie Barat\, forming an instant soul friendship; Philippine joined the Society of the Sacred Heart and sailed to the New World in 1818 with four companions. There\, she founded the first Catholic schools west of the Mississippi and grew the Society in the U.S.\, though frontier hardships delayed her dream of living among Native Americans until 23 years later with the Potawatomi. Despite physical and psychological tolls—and her self-doubt as a leader—she died in 1852 feeling a failure\, yet history honors her: Native Americans called her “the woman who prays always\,” her schools seeded a global network\, and the Society thrives internationally. Canonized in 1988\, she exemplifies enduring mission.
