Background
The project is located in a barangay about 5 kilometers from the city. This is a resettlement project established
by the Philippine District for the victims of the flashflood in Ormoc in 1991. This area is inhabited by 35
families and in 2012 the local government has declared the resettlement as a Purok which is a
smallest unit of government in this locality.
Families have no regular income but aspire to give their children a good foundation for higher learning. Poor as they are they cannot afford to send their children to a private school that can attend to the special needs of their
children.
The project sponsors the early childhood education of poor children of different ages with special needs in a home setting (SHCEC).
The project aims:
- To provide education to poor children with special needs that is appropriate to their developmental stage.
- To provide Christian formation to the young who will be future leaders of their community.
- To help support the education of boys who have great interest to reach a higher level of education that their parents cannot afford to sustain.
- To empower young mothers and support their desire to be good educators of their own children and the children at SHCEC.
Parents take an active part in the ongoing education of their children through monthly meetings with the staff.
