
Background
One of the very important Sacred Heart Goals is "Social Awareness that Impels to Action". All of the students are encouraged to develop their awareness of social justice issues that affect the local, national and global communities. It is hoped that with a developed sense of awareness students are impelled to act, and get involved in a variety of fundraising and community service projects throughout the school year.
Objective
To express the goal of "Social awareness that impels to Action" as a Sacred Heart School and live the teachings of global solidarity, justice and peace through a volunteering experience in Mexico.
Activities
- Fundraising to finance some of the building materials needed
- 7 students of 6th form and teacher from Hammersmilth traveled to Mexico
- The students and the teacher took part in building houses in the small town of Xochimilco in Mexico
- The students and the teacher experienced living with the local community
Outcome
Students finished with a sense of accomplishment, will to help more throught the Techo offices in London.
