
The sewing course the project run provided a response to the increasing job opportunities the Baleendah textile industry. Forty-six Muslim youth, aged 16-19 years old, from poor families and unskilled, attended the professional training that featured the necessary instruments and material for the teaching.
The graduated students are able to operate a sewing machine, measure and cut fabric, and sew garments (skirts, trousers, shirts, add zippers, buttons, hooks, etc.). The students sold their products in the church and the surrounding environment. In addition to capacity building, the students acquired responsibility, discipline and diligence in the practice of sewing. They showed enthusiasm in learning and hope for their future as they felt they are not anymore excluded from the job market.
