The project showed how sports and regular exercise are as much a medicine as chemicals.
The 502 student of the St. Charles Lwanga girls training centre, following their active involvement in the health and wellness program, appeared enthusiastic, dynamic, healthier and interrelated with their peers. They defeated their atheromatic conditions, diabetes, headaches and general body weakness.
The new sport and music equipment, the health talks and the built-in related units have stimulated the students that have sharpened their memory and improved their academic performances. The introduction of regular exercise and establishment of societies among peers (i.e. jogging club) is also perceived in the reduced number of students visiting the infirmary and hence less medication (medicine budget cut down), and students missing classes.
The importance of diet was also discussed and consequently students customised their nutritional intake with a balance intake of fruits, dairy products and meat.
The implementation of the project and its positive response among students crossed over the premises of the school and that lead them to meet neighbouring schools on friendly sport competitions. The project ensured both the health of students and the health of the school.
